The Spice Merchant's Wife by Charlotte Betts

The Spice Merchant's WifeReceived this book courtesy of a Goodreads Giveaway

I have read embarrassingly few historical fictions in my time, and never any set during the 17th Century. However, I am so glad that I won this book in a giveaway as it opened my eyes to the wonderful world of London during, and shortly after, the Great Fire of London.

This book is narrated in 1st person POV by the heroine, Kate Finche, and whilst I’m not in general a fan of 1st person POV, it worked very well in this case. It is a story of hardship, deceit, tragedy, friendship and forbidden love. The time-jumps help ensure the plot keeps moving forward and all the characters you meet are well defined.

A real page-turner. Highly recommended.
