The Killing Season by @MasonCrossBooks

The Killing SeasonWhen Caleb Wardell, the infamous ‘Chicago Sniper’, escapes from death row two weeks before his execution, the FBI calls on the services of Carter Blake, a man with certain specialised talents whose skills lie in finding those who don’t want to be found. A man to whom Wardell is no stranger.

Along with Elaine Banner, an ambitious special agent juggling life as a single mother with her increasingly high-flying career, Blake must track Wardell down as he cuts a swathe across America, apparently killing at random.

But Blake and Banner soon find themselves sidelined from the case. And as they try desperately to second guess a man who kills purely for the thrill of it, they uncover a hornets’ nest of lies and corruption. Now Blake must break the rules and go head to head with the FBI if he is to stop Wardell and expose a deadly conspiracy that will rock the country.

For all fans of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, here is another crime-thriller series for you to fall in love with.

Written by a Brit but set in the USA, this novel was gripping from start to finish.  The story focuses on 3 main characters: Wardell the serial killer, Banner the FBI Agent and Blake the Jack Reacher type character who is hired by the FBI to help catch Wardell.  The book is written in 3rd person POV apart from the chapters written from Blake’s POV which are written in 1st person POV and I have to say this change does take some getting used to.  I would understand it more if the 1st person POV was used for the perp rather than Blake ….  However, once you get used to this, it doesn’t detract from the story.

I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.
