Spotlight: Bruce Springsteen

Over the past few weeks I’ve finally accomplished what I’ve been meaning to do for quite awhile: listen to Bruce Springsteen.

Apart from the songs everyone knows, I’ve never really listened to his music and blogs are constantly telling me I am definitely missing out!  I am not Springsteen qualified enough to give each album an in depth analysis (because apparently my least favourite album is the one generally revered by the critics and my favourite one was panned for being too poppy ….) so instead these are the songs I like from each of the albums.  Spoiler Alert: I prefer the rocky ones over the folky ones.

Any gems I have missed off and deserve a second listen?

  1. Great list – the Boss has such a huge song catalog, so it’s kind of hard to tackle!

It’s funny, I have to say I’m not a fan of “Nebraska” and “Devils & Dust” either.

In terms of “missing” tunes, while it’s all highly subjective, I would probably add the following:

The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle:
    – 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
    – Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)

    Born to Run:
    – Thunder Road

    The River:
    – Cadillac Ranch
    – Ramrod

    Born in the U.S.A.:
    – Bobby Jean
    – Glory Days

Last but not least, on “Darkness,” it should read “The Promised Land,” not “The Promised Love,” though the latter would make for an intriguing title, so maybe you wanna suggest it to the Boss? 🙂
