In the season finale, when Lindsay receives a panicked call from her mother Bunny whose boyfriend had just been shot, Lindsay must figure out the best way to approach the situation, as her mother is now a murder suspect. The case opens up when a group of high school students OD, and the drugs in question relate back to the situation with Bunny. In addition to her mother’s issues, Lindsay finds herself up against the review board dealing with consequences of her actions.
When I heard that Sophia Bush would not be returning to the show for its fifth season I was really disappointed since she and Halstead/Lindsay were two of my favourite things about the show. But that was before I’d caught up and watched the last few episodes of the season. The writers just seem to play the same old storylines over and over again with Lindsay: she gets too emotional about a case, she gets caught crossing the line (whereas Voight rarely has to face up to his actions) and Erin’s Mum appears causing problems for her and the rest of the team. Maybe it’s a good thing she’s going.
And I didn’t need to hear confirmation of her leaving to know that she wouldn’t be back as this episode was a character farewell if ever I saw one.
Two things I absolutely despised were:
Voight finding out that Bunny had actually killed her boyfriend and agreeing to keep quiet and tossing out the evidence. I know he always has Lindsay’s best interests at heart but covering up a murder is just going too far
After blowing up Halstead/Lindsay’s relationship the writers tease us with talk of a proposal? Seriously?! And who would’ve thought that Will would be the one who talks sense! “This girl does not want to be saved”. Yes EXACTLY! Will understands Lindsay better than his brother! Seriously Jay, you hide a secret marriage from her and then move out when Lindsay wants to talk and now that she might lose her job and her mother might be arrested for murder you want to propose. Are you kidding me right now?!
I like Detective Upton. Can she stay?
