After being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.
The main reason it has taken me so long to explore the Marvel Universe properly (I’ve watched The Avengers 1 + 2 out of context) is the need to (mostly) watch films in a series in chronological order and in order to do so it would mean starting with Iron Man. Although I’d heard great things, Robert Downey Jr and a rich, arrogant playboy in a metal suit didn’t really appeal to me.
I’m glad I finally sat down and watched it though as I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, probably in no small part due to the fact Tony Stark spent quite a while being tortured and held captive and having a real “come to Jesus” moment.
❥ One of my favourite things in the film is when Tony Stark talks to his gadgets
❥ I loved that for the first film it’s just Iron Man versus war lords and greedy warmongers as opposed to monsters from another planet
❥ After watching the Pilot episode of Agent Carter I was able to appreciate Jarvis the electronic butler being a throwback to Tony’s father’s real life butler
❥ I am surprised that Tony announced to the world at the end that he is Iron Man. I would’ve thought that half the fun of future films would be him having to hide his true identity aka Spider-Man.
❥ The scene between Tony and Pepper on the balcony after their dance was super cringeworthy but I liked how their relationship was left open-ended at the end of this film
